Joe’s Hot Take:
From our side of the table, and hearing what our clients want their cars to be, we still get specific requests for sedans – namely cars with a closed/secure trunk that can be locked. BMW and Mercedes offer a number of different models with trunks, so do Toyota, Honda, Hyundai and Kia. But there are none at the moment from the American manufacturers. As you will read in this article, a lot of this has to do with lack of profitability of this type of model, but I see it differently. Not having American brand sedans means that more consumers will bypass these brands altogether. Even if the profit per car is less, the brands and thus the dealers are losing out on other sources of income that have to do with their cars being out on the road – thinking service/maintenance for one. Plus with new cars being so much more expensive these days, we need more cars on the lower end of the spectrum price-wise.
And if sedans are what people want, give it to them. There’s a huge market for them.
